How much fun are we having?! You turned 6 weeks old on Tuesday (6/23)! We’ve gotten the hang of this mother/daughter thing and I consider each day a blessing. We don’t do anything too wild and crazy…most days we try to run at least one errand so we don’t go stir crazy in the house. We’ve done things like go for a walk around the neighborhood, meet daddy or friends for lunch, or do a little shopping at places like Babies R Us. You don’t ever enjoy those outings as much as I do, but most times you tolerate them fairly well.
You are 100% breastfeeding at this point. After a slight learning curve, we’ve both mastered the task. You are gaining weight on schedule and you are pooping and peeing like a champ. All the things they look for when considering breastfeeding success.
You have changed so much in such a short time. Your little face was round when you were born and has since gotten a little longer and more oval shaped. Your facial features are still the same, just more mature. We get mixed opinions, but I think you are starting to look more like your dad each day. It’s hard to tell when will happen in the long run, but for now your eyes are definitely looking more blue than brown. You are weighing about 9 lbs and 12 oz right now; you definitely feel more solid and heavy when we pick you up.
You are such a good baby! The only times you really get fussy are when you have an upset tummy. Unfortunately, you consistently have pretty bad gas. When it’s really bad, you tighten up your abs, throw your legs out straight, and start wailing. I figured out that putting a pacifier in your mouth gives you something else, besides your butt, to focus on. Though you still express your disapproval physically, you don’t cry as much.
You are starting to smile with purpose now; before your smiles only seemed to come when you were sleeping. Within the last week you have started to smile in response to sweet talk from your mommy and daddy. You seem to be most responsive to your dad’s voice…he’s always been told he has a distinct voice…I guess you think so too.
You are sleeping longer through the night now. Our feedings have gone from every 1-2 hours to more like 3-4 hours. You really like to go outside by the pool…we’ll sometimes sit in one of the patio chairs that rocks and just listen to the outdoors. It’s getting a little hot for that now that it’s almost July! It’s so hard to believe my maternity leave is more than half over! I will be back at work on August 3rd.
After looking quite a few places, we found a daycare for you. It happens to be the one closest to our house. I am already dreading the day I have to leave you there – it’s going to break my heart! Especially since we’ll have been inseparable for almost 3 months at that point! I just try not to think about it and just enjoy and treasure every single moment we have together.
You’ve got some serious grandma time coming up! Grandma Luli and George will be here this weekend. They are bringing their new puppy, Khloe. And your Grandma Karen, Grandpa Bruce, and Cousin Jacob will be here next Wednesday for the July 4th weekend.
Hey girl it is hard to believe 6 weeks already! The gas trick is the peppermint and water if ya forgot call me I will fill you in. I can’t wait to hold her she is so adorable!
