I had a follow-up appointment with my regular doctor on Thursday; it was made about 6 months ago. Though everything was great at your check-up with Dr. Carmichael on Tuesday, just 2 days later with Dr. Rathkamp my blood pressure was high. How could that be?! Dr. Rathkamp advised me to carry on with my day as usual and come back in the afternoon to have my BP checked again. So I went back at 4pm yesterday….and it was still high.
After checking with Dr. Carmichael, it was decided that I needed to proceed to labor & delivery for some testing. While we were waiting on the results the nurse called Dr. Carmichael and she said there may be a chance I would be checking in for induction. That was a little unsettling. Luckily, the labs came back normal so I was told I could go home but was given strict orders for bed rest. UGH – I am not the type of person who does well on bed rest…I get way too restless!
So, here I am Friday morning on bed rest….though it’s been more like couch rest so far. I called Dr. Carmichael this morning as instructed and she advised that we treat and monitor the blood pressure through the weekend and scheduled me to come in on Monday @ 11:30am for a new round of testing. Depending on the results of those tests, we may check into the hospital Monday night for induction. Either way, I am pretty sure you will make your way into this world sometime within the next week! We’ll keep you posted….
Enjoy the bed “couch” rest while you can….trust me 🙂 Rent some movies, snuggle with the puppy, read a book and before you know it you’ll be holding your little one. Looking forward to the news of her arrival.
Hi! You will do terrific, don’t worry 🙂 Hailey will be here soon enough so try to enjoy a few relaxing days before everything changes!!!
Kristine! The exact same thing happened to me…they told me to not eat anything high in sodium(which is like nothing) and no caffeine but my blood pressure never went back down so when i went back in they made me go right to the hospital for an induction, they didnt even let me go home to get my stuff…It must have someting to do with big babies haha. It was all good though cuz we got to see Colton sooner than expected!Im so excited for you two and cant wait to meet her!
Kristine,
Congratulations to both you and Brad! I’m on Brad’s facebook so I got your link. I had the same blood pressure issue. I was actually hospitalized a week before Kaitlynn was born. I finally begged to come home and like you was on bed rest. I was hospitalized from Tuesday to Friday and then delivered the following Tuesday via C-section. Kaitlynn was born 3 1/2 weeks early and weighed only 5 lbs. 6.9 oz. Everything was fine, though. My blood pressure stayed high for about another week and a half, but eventually it went down. Enjoy the rest, it’s a whole different world with a baby! Fun, but different!
Oooh goodness… keep me posted guys… I may give you guys a call on Monday if I haven’t heard anything. I’ll be praying for all 3 of you. Love you all. ~Nicole
